Job Description

We are seeking an experienced LTA L3 accredited+ qualified coach to work in a team environment to provide a professional and competent coaching service to all the clients of DRH Sports Limited including participants in the coaching programme at MKTC, members of MKTC, and to deliver a wide range of tennis and multi-sports out-reach programmes to schools throughout the Milton Keynes area.

The successful application will be a car owner/driver with business use cover.

We passionately believe that children should not specialise in any one sport too young, and this is reflected in multi-spots being an integral part of our schools and multi sports camps programme. Applicants must have or be working towards, or willing to attain within 12 months of starting, a second Level 1, or better, professional sports coaching qualification in one of: Track and or cross-country athletics, Football, Netball or similar main-stream UK sport.

The successful applicant will be an ambassador for tennis, DRH Sports and MKTC internally and externally. You should be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the tennis game both technically and tactically and will have competed in tennis as a performance player.

The successful applicant will be involved in all aspects of our programme including groups (adults and children of all ages and abilities), individuals, holiday camps, multi-sports camps, our schools programme and club nights/social mix-ins, drills nights and team practice.

MKTC has around 300 members and a coaching programme for around 180 mini, junior and adult players. You will be involved in developing a wide range of tennis players. This will include tennis tots and up through to performance players, with the majority at club level.

You will be expected to attend regular team meetings, promote DRH Sports and MKTC and our coaching programme generally and keep all your training and coaching qualifications up to date. You will need to possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong organisational ability. Key to this role is attention to detail, reliability, flexibility and team working skills. Applicants must be passionate about the game, be able to deliver high quality sessions for all age groups and have the desire to coach to the highest standard.

We are looking for someone who provides first-rate customer service with a positive “can do” attitude, who can innovate and enhance the profile of DRH Sports and MKTC as well as assisting the coaching team in making decisions as to our future tennis coaching strategy.

Venue Overview

DRH Sports is a growing, and highly successful, provider of a leading edge Tennis Coaching Programme at Milton Keynes Tennis Club (MKTC). DRH Sports is a sought-after provider of within curriculum and after school tennis and multi-sports activities in addition to its rapidly expanding multi sports school holiday camps which offer the opportunity for children to specialise in tennis or football for part of the day.

MKTC is one of the larger tennis clubs in Milton Keynes with 4 astro and 2 hard courts all of which are floodlit, with ambitions to develop the club infrastructure further.

This position provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and professional coach to form part of our team of three full time coaches and help develop our membership and coaching programme.

Junior and mini tennis group coaching at MKTC and the DRH Sports Schools programme dominate our weekday mid-afternoon to early evening delivery plus additional adult tennis improver groups.

Some mini and junior sessions also take place over the weekend plus an active competition programme.

All the above is complemented by the opportunity to build a portfolio of one to one tennis coaching delivery during weekdays and weekends and extensive opportunities for multi sports coaching throughout the school closure periods.

You are expected to lead and support at least one, if not two, mini/junior team tennis teams during the summer and winter tennis seasons and to be an active participant, as a team and or league tennis player, representing the Club in team tennis and/or similar.

MKTC is a thriving club and whilst it has modest facilities, it is set in a very attractive setting in the economically booming town of Milton Keynes where you can do everything from skiing to fishing! MKTC has a very active social play calendar plus 7 Men's teams and 3 women's teams in the Milton Keynes Summer League,4 teams in the Buckinghamshire mini and junior team tennis programme and a men's team in the National Team Tennis league.

We have a good relationship with the indoor performance centre at Letchworth as well as the National and Regional LTA. We are a recognised Tennis Mark+ tennis club, which hosts regular grade 7,6 and 5 adult, junior and mini LTA tennis competitions.

Person Specification

Minimum requirements include:

  • LTA Tennis Coach L3 Tennis accredited+ qualification
  • LTA tennis playing standard 6.2 or better with a proven track record of tennis competition participation
  • Current DBS (LTA) and or update service enabled
  • Valid First Aid Certification
  • UK residency
  • Car owner driver (with business use insurance).

    You will have good numeracy and literacy, demonstrated either through GCSE or equivalent qualification or through application in the work place. Ideally you will have great computer literacy skills and an interest in marketing, social media and business.

    You will have a proven track record of keeping your LTA coach CPD up to date, and a genuine interest in learning, coaching and sport development.

    Strong personal organisational skills are essential combined with very good communication and interpersonal skills.

    Your passion and enthusiasm for tennis, and sport in general, will be evident in all that you do. It's important that you can transfer skills and knowledge to people of all ages and backgrounds, but particularly children. You will be able to demonstrate a developing competence in managing the behaviour of children and young people in groups within a sports setting and be familiar with the principles of safeguarding and working effectively with children and young people.

    You will be a role model for intensity and excellence, and sportsmanship, on the tennis court whether in coaching, training or competing.
